Standard Liege have informed AC Milan they must up their bid for Axel Witsel.
The midfielder is a top target for the Serie A champs.
"I will admit there has been contact between our club and Milan for the player, but there is still a big gap between Milan's offer and our demands," said Standard Liege President Luciano D'Onofrio.
Witsel is also being linked with Liverpool.
