Standard Chartered prepared to step in if Liverpool players misbehave

Standard Chartered are prepared to put their foot down should Liverpool players misbehave off the pitch - including centre-forward Andy Carroll. Gavin Laws, who has a lead role in the record £20million-a-year deal with Liverpool as head of corporate affairs for Standard Chartered, says the bank have "strict rules" on how staff behave and encourage partners to do the same.

Laws told the Daily Mail: "Before we signed the deal, we had CEO to CEO discussions about codes of conduct and how Liverpool react if a player misbehaved to a certain level. They told us and we said, "OK". Good conduct is important to us on and off the pitch. If it got outrageous, we would have a conversation."

On Carroll the footballer, he said: "He has size, ponytail, youth, everything you would want in a Premier League footballer, but I've never had a beer with him."
