St Mirren's Djemba-Djemba: I hope Man Utd great Ferguson watches me play

Eric Djemba-Djemba admits he would love it if former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson watches him play for his new club St Mirren.

The 32-year old Cameroonian midfielder was pleased to learn that Ferguson had once managed the Paisley club in the 1970s and hoped that he would cast his eye over him when he takes to the pitch for the Buddies.

"I was told that yesterday and I was surprised," the ex-United man said on Thursday.

"I hope he will come to see me play."

Djemba-Djemba, who has also spent time at Aston Villa, felt he would be fine returning to football in the UK.

"For me it's a great league and they are also in the cup so it's a good challenge for me," he said ahead of his possible debut in the Scottish Cup meeting with Dundee United on Sunday.

"For me, the Scottish league is similar to the English league so it's a great move for me. African people will see me in British football so I like that. It will not be new for me to be on the pitch and tackle left and right."
