St Mirren rue loss of keeper Smith for eight weeks

St Mirren stopper Chris Smith has been ruled out for up to two months after breaking his foot while on loan at Dunfermline. Smith has now returned to the Buddies, who allowed him to join the Pars on an emergency loan at the end of last month.

The 23-year-old has only just made his comeback from a cruciate ligament injury suffered in March and now faces a recovery period of between six and eight weeks.

Smith told the club's official website: "This just sums up what has been a terrible year for me.

"I was really enjoying getting first-team football and doing well with Dunfermline.

"I felt it last Thursday and mentioned that it felt a bit funny to the Dunfermline physio on Friday, but then played the game on Saturday."
