St Johnstone bring in ex-Everton, Motherwell striker McFadden

St Johnstone have confirmed the signing of former Scotland international James McFadden.

The 31-year old striker has penned a short-term deal with the Scottish side until the end of the current season after a successful trial.

The former Everton, Birmingham City and Sunderland man was with Motherwell last term but was released from his second spell at Fir Park at the end of the cacmpaign.

Saints boss Tommy Wright said: "I'm delighted to have signed James. It's no secret that recent injuries have left us short of options and he brings with him a wealth of experience at the very top level of the game and has the ability to provide us with that little spark.

"He's signed for the remainder of the season but there's a little bit of a gamble on the part of both the club and the player. However, we've held very open and honest discussions with James.

"Both parties will review things in January and if it is working out for everyone then he will be here until the end of the campaign."

McFadden will go straight into Wright's squad for this weekend's home clash with St Mirren.
