PSV Eindhoven midfielder Steven Bergwijn denies he refused to play against FC Twente yesterday amid talk of him joining Tottenham.

Spurs are reportedly close to signing the 22-year-old winger from the Dutch club.

Bergwijn did not play in PSV's 1-1 draw against Twente, amid reports the Netherlands international had pulled out of the game as he wanted to travel to London to finalise his move.

But the midfielder said on Instagram: “Good evening PSV fans, a lot was said about me, I've read all of it and I'm disappointed with how this went down.

'None of it is true, I never refused to play for PSV and I would never do so in the future."
