Manchester United are closing on a deal for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld.

The Mirror says Tottenham are resigned to losing Alderweireld to United in the summer for just £26million.

The Reds' rebuilding programme is set to start with a swoop for the Belgian who has so far refused to sign a new deal at White Hart Lane.

In January Spurs activated a counter-clause that allowing their Belgian centre back to leave for just £26 million within the final two weeks of this summer's transfer window.

United are set to push their way to the front of the queue for 30-year-old Alderweireld with Juventus and Barcelona also keen.

Spurs will have no option but to sell with just a year remaining of Alderweireld's contract.
