Spurs hero Hazard: Mourinho needs chance to rebuild squad

Former Tottenham midfielder Micky Hazard can see Jose Mourinho performing major squad surgery this summer.

Hazard - who was a UEFA Cup and FA Cup winner with the the Lilywhites - reckons the 57-year-old is working with one hand tied behind his back.

"Sometimes things are out of your control as a manager," he told the Daily Star.

“Imagine Liverpool without Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

"Spurs lost three players who have been similarly influential in the last few years.

"The injury list caused issues and he's never really had time to implement things as there's been midweek games one after the other. He hasn't really had much time to work on the team defensively - or even their shape.

"But I fully expect from now to when football kicks off again, to see a big change.

“I expect to see a lot more of his ideas and he'll have instilled the attributes he's renowned for.

“That winning mentality and some solid defensive work. That's been Spurs' biggest flaw this season. They've conceded goals out of nothing.

"It's been stop start, but over the next two-and-a-half years I expect him to achieve something big. Winning trophies is certainly in his repertoire.

"Pochettino was a great manager - but he hadn't won any silverware. If you're going to get rid of a great manager like that then you need to go for the very best.

“Mourinho is a born winner and he'll add a trophy to the cabinet before his time at the club is out."
