Spurs great Hoddle understands Eriksen Inter Milan exit: If he doesn't suit Conte

Tottenham great Glenn Hoddle can understand Christian Eriksen pushing to leave Inter Milan ahead of the January market.

Before Inter's victory over Torino on Sunday, the Nerrazzurri's GM Beppe Marotta announced that Eriksen had requested to be sold in the winter transfer window. Marotta also confirmed that coach Antonio Conte had accepted the request.

Eriksen only moved to Inter in January this year from Spurs, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal. At Tottenham, the Denmark captain had spent seven years.

For Hoddle, he can understand Eriksen's thinking, though argues that the midfield schemer also took his time to find his feet at Spurs when first arriving in London.

Speaking on his podcast, 'The Glenn Hoddle Footy Show', Hoddle reasoned: "No, he hasn't settled there, but I think it took him quite a while to settle at Tottenham also, though. He didn't hit the road running straight away. It took him a couple of seasons to really feel at home and feel equipped for the English game.

"But he's struggling and appears in limbo in Milan. He certainly looks a different player when he puts a national team shirt on."

Hoddle, who played abroad with AS Monaco, can understand Eriksen taking the chance on moving to Italy, despite the midfielder's current struggles.

He continued: "The move to Italy, he felt was going to expand him as a player, but instead it's jolted him and he's stopped still - and maybe he's going to have to seek another club."

On Eriksen's plans to now leave Inter, Hoddle says the key is the opinion of coach Conte.

Hoddle explained: "In a perfect world, you want to dig in, force yourself to find your best form again and get back in the team.

"But that's only 50 per cent of the job done. The other 50 per cent is whether the manager fancies you. Do you suit the tactics of the team? All those things come into it.

"But if he's not playing football, he's at an age where he knows he'd going to have to make a move."
