Spurs boss Redknapp ready to move for Portsmouth keeper James

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is expected to move for Portsmouth goalkeeper David James in January.

The Guardian says Carlo Cudicini's motorbike accident yesterday increases the possibility that Redknapp will make a renewed bid to sign James from Portsmouth in the January transfer window.

The Spurs manager wanted to sign James, the England international, during the summer transfer window but the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy vetoed the move because, in Heurelho Gomes and Cudicini, the manager already had two good quality and expensively paid goalkeepers.

Redknapp's other options in the position are Jimmy Walker and the youngsters David Button and Ben Alnwick, none of whom have extensive top-flight experience and, with Gomes prone to occasional injury, Redknapp will press for fresh blood in January. James would welcome a move to White Hart Lane although his wages might prove a stumbling block.
