Spurs boss Redknapp: King better England prospect than Arsenal's Campbell

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp says imminent Arsenal signing Sol Campbell won't make England's World Cup squad.

In his column for The Sun, Redknapp puts Ledley King ahead of the 36 year-old England veteran.

Redknapp wrote: "England do have problems in defence, with Rio Ferdinand's back injury a concern.

"But Campbell would not be the answer in my mind or, I feel, in Fabio Capello's. Besides, if England do need cover in defence for the World Cup, Ledley King is a better answer.

"Ledley is a fantastic footballer and versatile enough to play as a holding midfielder at a pinch.

"Just what an international team boss needs when he is juggling the demands of a tournament and the twists and turns of injuries and suspensions with a finite number of players.

"Ledley has to contend with ongoing knee problems but there is enough space between games at the World Cup for him to play a part. In my opinion, he would be a better choice to go as a covering defender."
