Jose Mourinho has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson urged him to sign Tottenham star Dele Alli when he was in charge of Manchester United.
The tidbit has emerged from a new documentary on Spurs' turbulent 2019/20 campaign, which will air on Monday 31st August on Amazon Prime
"I told already Dele very, very directly, he doesn't train well. He's not a good trainer," says Mourinho in the documentary.
"I'm not saying a disaster, but I'm not saying a Harry Kane. You know, Harry Kane trains well."
Speaking on Alli's form in previous seasons, the Portuguese added: "Sir Alex Ferguson gave me only one advice in two-and-a-half years: 'Buy Dele Alli. That guy, with that mentality, the way he plays, the aggression he has in his mind, this guy is the Manchester United guy. Buy that guy'.
"And he has an eye for players. And he told me: "Dele Alli". But he's not a good trainer. We need to find the right motivation for the guy."
