Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim joked that Manchester United should hire Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.

Amorim is one of the names linked to United on an interim basis, while Ten Hag is seen as a major candidate for the permanent job at the end of the season.

Ajax and Sporting are in the same group in the Champions League, and are set to play on December 7th in the last match day of the group stages.

Asked during a press conference about the link to United, Amorim brushed aside suggestions that he was about to leave Sporting.

He said: "We're talking about rumours here. I was clear about my future last week.

"Several names were thrown around. Therefore, they're rumours that I don't give much attention to.

"However, if I may, I think Manchester United should sign Ten Hag this week. Now that would be something that would make me quite happy."
