The SPL split will remain regardless of any league reconstruction if SPL2 comes into effect. Secretary Iain Blair told the Scottish News of the World: "The split would remain because a 12-team league wouldn't work in terms of fixture congestion.
"We've had a number of last-day finishes in recent seasons and one or two clubs have taken the general view that this is working quite well so be careful about tinkering with it.
"The split creates a double hit for the season - you have jockeying to make the top six and then you have a sprint for the title and European places."
