The Scottish Premier League are unconcerned that Rangers and Celtic have been rejected by the Premier League. The Old Firm giants had been hoping to win support for a proposal which would see them join the English top flight.
That news comes as a blow to Rangers and Celtic, who are keen to compete on a grander stage, but the SPL have welcomed the fact that their 'massive assets' are staying put.
"Rangers and Celtic are massive assets to the SPL and a vital part of the Scottish footballing landscape," said an SPL spokesman.
"Both clubs will continue to make an important contribution to the development of our league.
"We have a new chairman and a new chief executive in position, and with that there is a fresh impetus to build upon the work that has already been done in the SPL to reinvigorate Scottish football."
