Millwall extended their unbeaten run to six League One matches courtesy of a brace from Shane Ferguson.
The Newcastle United loanee produced a Man of the Match display on Saturday as the Lions defeated Colchester United 4-1 at The Den to go eighth on the tier three table.
Lee Gregory drew first blood for Millwall with a composed finish in the 13th minute before Northern Irish winger Ferguson, who is on loan from Newcastle United, scored his first goal for the London club when slotting between the legs of U's keeper Jamie Jones after receiving a neat pass from Steve Morison in the 38th minute.
Chris Porter responded for the visitors ten minutes into the second half but Ferguson soon restored Millwall's two-goal lead when he made an overlapping run to get on the end of Gregory's ball before firing beyond Jones from inside the area.
Byron Webster completed the victory in the 81st minute as Millwall made it three wins from their past four outings.
After the match, Millwall manager Neil Harris spoke glowingly of Ferguson who has made 15 league appearances since arriving in Bermondsey.
“Shane Ferguson is a great lad and has added balance to the left side. They were two well-taken goals," he said.
