The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is in talks over a deal that would see the Spanish Super Cup staged in Saudi Arabia for the next six years, according to a report in Marca.
The Spanish sports newspaper says that the Saudi government has made a proposal worth a whopping €30 million (US$33.6 million) per season to stage Spanish soccer's annual curtain raiser, which pits the previous year's La Liga champions against the winners of the Copa del Rey knockout tournament, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.
Marca's report added that nothing has yet been finalised between the two parties, and that a longer-term deal is also possible.
The changes to the Spanish Super Cup, including whether to take the domestic competition to the Middle East, will now be voted on by the RFEF assembly at the end of April.
Saudi Arabia already has a deal in place to stage three editions of Italy's Supercoppa Italiana, which sees the reigning Serie A champions take on the previous season's Coppa Italia winners.
