Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata was delighted to prove Spain's matchwinner at Nations League opponents Portugal.

The striker netted with two minutes remaining to put Spain in the Nations League final four.

“We made a great effort and showed when we have to stand up, in games like this, we can stand up," said Morata.

"The last two competitions escaped us by details. The Nations League in the final and the Euros on penalties in the semis. Now we have to prepare for the future and enjoy winning here, which is not easy."

Morata praised Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams for his assist.

“He was key in his second game for the national team," explained the Atletico Madrid striker of his Athletic Club counterpart.

“We never lost track of the game. These are games where you have to go until the last minutes, when the opponents are tired and we knew we could finish it at the end."
