Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte's international future still has been decided.
The Daily Star says City's £57million defender is French and has represented the country of his birth up to Under-21s level.
But Spain have him on their radar as he is of Basque descent through his grandparents and he played in La Liga for six years with Athletic Bilbao.
Laporte, 24, wants to play for France, but is understood to be frustrated that he has not had a call-up from the world champions.
The City centre-back admitted three years ago that he would consider switching to Spain if France were not going to use him at senior level.
And he was encouraged to switch nationalities by former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui, now at Real Madrid.
