Spain coach Luis de la Fuente paid tribute to PSG defender Sergio Ramos at today's squad announcement.

Real Madrid legend Ramos announced his international retirement this month after being informed by De la Fuente that he won't be part of his first squad.

The coach said, "We are not going to talk about players who are not here, but we are going to leave it settled. I convey all my thanks to him. It was a private conversation and I'm in the habit of not airing it, but there's a new player with a new idea.

"We bet on these players and want to give them security and confidence from the first moment.

"It was a video call and we said what we had to say to each other. The content of the conversation is private.

"I have never talked about the subject of age. Who says that is not true. The one who says goodbye with a letter is Ramos. Spain is much more interested in meeting these players. The decision is up to the man in charge, which is me."
