England manager Gareth Southgate has defended Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Southgate offered his backing to number one Jordan Pickford, with Everton one spot above the Premier League relegation zone.

He said: "Everybody when they are in a team closer to the bottom of the table, there are going to be moments where that team is under pressure.

"All of our goalkeepers make mistakes. That is the nature of the position. I thought he played very well at the weekend against Tottenham.

"His focus was good, his kicking was very good so you have to balance it when you are judging players because it is not just a couple of games, it's a longer period of time.

"Generally with us Jordan's performances have been excellent as well and that obviously has a bearing on how we view it."
