Southampton winger Redmond: Hasenhuttl showdown exciting for me

Southampton winger Nathan Redmond admits their boo-boys had him determined to prove them wrong.

Redmond is returning to his best form under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

He recalled to the Mirror: “There's nothing worse than not being able to get past a certain point, which I thought was never-ending. I wasn't doing anything right, I hadn't scored a goal and was not performing for my team."

As well as the jeers when he did play, Redmond also had to cope with not making other squads, even being relegated to train with Saints Under-23s.

“At the start of the season I thought I was playing pretty well. But then the new manager came in and said, 'You've got no goals and no assists in the league. What's going on?'

“Later on we had a review and he's like, 'You've now got six goals in 11 games and a couple of assists as well – look at what you've done in the space of three months'.

“It made me think, 'What if I had been doing this six or seven years ago?'

“That's what is exciting for me – and hopefully I can keep it going."
