Southampton winger Nathan Redmond: A massive win

Southampton winger Nathan Redmond was delighted with their 2-1 win over Everton.

Saints edged in front thanks to a fine strike from distance from James Ward-Prowse, before Lucas Digne scored a bizarre own goal in dispossessing Redmond to double the hosts' lead.

Gylfi Sigurdsson pulled one back as the game entered stoppage time, but Saints weathered a late storm to secure back-to-back wins and a fourth victory out of seven in the league.

“It's massive," Redmond said, as Saints pulled three points clear of danger. “Two completely different wins – today was about stamping our authority on the game and trying to hurt them where they're weak.

“The last four games in the league, you can see the subtle changes that we're making and the ones that are having a big impact.

“The nitty-gritty stuff that you see a lot of the boys doing – the tackles, the defending, winning the balls in midfield and chasing around up front – all becomes enjoyable for us now.

“The gaffer has made us aware that if we enjoy doing that, it'll make the game twice as easy when we're trying to go forward. We're benefiting from everybody working for each other."

Redmond was credited with Saints' second goal by the stadium announcer and hopes he has extended his personal purple patch to six in eight games.

“I'll take it!" he grinned. “I'm going to have to look at the video in a minute, but I want it so I hope they give it to me."
