Liverpool won't get a clear run at Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel should they firm up their interest.

The 25 year-old French striker is being watched by the Reds leading up to the January market.

However, Sunderland and Southampton are also monitoring Defrel, who impressed against Europa League opponents Athletic Bilbao last week.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has positive scouting reports on Defrel, but has expressed some concerns.

Primarily, Klopp is unsure if Defrel can adjust to the Premier League having spent his career in the lower ranks of Italy with Parma, Foggia and Cesena.
