Southampton move out of relegation zone with win over Norwich

Southampton have moved out of the relegation zone after clinching a 2-1 win over fellow strugglers Norwich City.

The hosts were ahead 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Danny Ings and Ryan Bertrand.

Norwich regained some hope when Teemu Pukki converted with 25 minutes remaining.

But the Saints managed to hold on for an all-important three points.

Speaking after the match, Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "It is clear we used a lot of energy in the first 70 minutes, until 2-1 it was a good game from us. They thought something was possible for them and in the last 15 minutes we were a bit tired.

"We knew when December came it was games we needed to take points from. There is still a lot of games to go, we have found a shape and a core and that helps us us to play in an aggressive way and that's what the supporters like to see here.

"We have lifted ourselves from the relegation zone and you see how quickly things change but there is still a long way to go."
