Less than three months after that result, Saints were winning the reverse fixure last weekend.
Ward-Prowse told the Mirror: “It was a massive wake-up call for everybody but it could have completely written us off altogether and it could have been our downfall and the season had gone. But it says a lot about the club that everybody sticks together and gets through those tough times.
“It was a great turning point and hopefully we will look back at the end of the season and see it as a good thing not just for the team but for the football club in general.
“I think there was added feeling around the game because of the 9-0 and for us as players we weren't really thinking about it. We were aware of them playing it on the screens in the stadium before the game and we were thinking: 'ok…'
“We got back into the changing room and the manager made us watch a montage of that 9-0 defeat and the things we've done since then, the positive things and the strides we've taken as a team.
“We were all kind of angry by watching that and it provoked us to think: 'Let's go out and show them.'"
