Southampton midfielder Romeu frustrated after Cardiff defeat

Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu admitted frustration after defeat at Cardiff City.

Callum Paterson's second-half strike delivered the killer blow for the hosts in an otherwise even encounter.

Romeu lamented, "It is hard. We knew that they were looking for those counter-attacks and to run as soon as they recovered.

“We lost one ball in the middle, we tried to stop them from running but they still did it and scored.

“That's something we need to learn because if we want to play forward and high up the pitch we cannot let these teams go away that easily.

“We tried to go and react but this team know how to manage the games when they are leading so it didn't come. The way we competed and the way we fought today was good.

“They have now made that gap a little bit bigger which is a negative thing for us, but on the other side we have a new manager and we've only been working with him for two days.

“Looking at the fixtures, we now have many days to prepare for the next match [against Arsenal], more days to work with this manager and learn from him."
