Southampton & Leeds postponed for FA Cup tie

Southampton and Leeds United will have to play their upcoming Premier League game at a later date.

The Saints and Elland Road club were due to meet next Wednesday, however the FA Cup has caused a postponement.

Southampton have an FA Cup game against Shrewsbury that will take place next week instead, which was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the latter club.

No new date has been set for the Southampton vs Leeds game as yet.

A Southampton statement read: "Southampton's match at home to Shrewsbury Town in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup has been rescheduled for Tuesday 19th January, the club can confirm.

"The tie was initially due to be played last Saturday, but was postponed by the Football Association after a number of positive Covid-19 tests at the League One club.

"Following discussions since then, it has been agreed the fixture will take place next Tuesday, with kick-off at 8pm. The match will be broadcast live on BT Sport. This also means that Saints' scheduled visit to Leeds United for a Premier League fixture on Wednesday 20th January will be moved as a result. A new date will be confirmed in due course.

"The winner of the Shrewsbury game will advance to host Arsenal in the fourth round, with ties due to take place on the weekend of January 23rd/24th."
