Southampton keeper Davis: Lambert won't be nervy about joining up with England

Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis is delighted for Ricki Lambert after his England call up.

Lambert's Saints room-mate reckons the 31 year old striker will take his selection for the England squad for the friendly against Scotland this week at 31 in his stride.

Davis told the Mirror: "Rickie is that type of character and nothing seems to faze him. I do not think playing for England is going to faze him either.

"The thing is he has worked extremely hard since he came to us from Bristol Rovers quite late in his career.

"Every manager from Alan Pardew onwards has added something to his game and he has taken it all on board.

"Mentally and physically he is a different machine from the one who first came here from the lower divisions and it is nice for us all when you get that call for your country at the end of a long journey.

"I was buzzing for him and so were all the lads. With Rickie being called up, it is a special time for all of us at the club.

"The timing of the friendly can be questioned but in terms of what it will do for the likes of Rickie and our squad it is massive. It is a great opportunity for him."
