Southampton happy with progress of Diamond Edwards

Transfer interest is arriving for Southampton youngster Diamond Edwards.

The exciting 18-year-old was on the losing side as Southampton went down 2-1 to Manchester City in the U18s Premier League Cup final last week but his impact on the game did not go unnoticed.

Southampton beat off competition from others to sign Edwards from Reading and their track record of giving youngsters a pathway to the first team will no doubt play a big factor in whether they can keep hold of him, says the Daily Mail.

Describing Edwards, Southampton U18s coach Mikey Harris said: "Diamond missed the majority of the season through injury.

"But since he's come back into the team, he's scored some fantastic goals and he's definitely a player that will get the fans off their seats.

"He's an excellent dribbler. And yeah, he can work a shot and can score goals and create goals. He also runs really hard for the team.

"So it's been great to have him back. He's worked really hard in his rehab to get back here. So we're really pleased for him."
