Southampton goalscorers Armstrong, Ings hail comeback triumph

Southampton goalscorer Stuart Armstrong was delighted with victory at Leicester City.

Strikes from Armstrong and Danny Ings overturned Dennis Praet's early opener.

“I think we're all very happy with that result," Armstrong said.

“We all wanted to make sure we put in a good performance – not make amends for what happened (at St Mary's), but just show that we're a good team with good quality. I think we did that.

“We dominated parts of the game. We had to take a little bit of pressure, especially in the second half, but off the ball we were great, defensively we were great and as a team I think we worked really well.

“I thought we played really well, created a lot of chances and I think we deserved our three points."

Armstrong's 19th-minute strike – his first of the season – came via a kind deflection off Leicester midfielder James Maddison.

“I think we deserved a little bit of luck – we had a good few chances, hit the bar a couple of times with Danny, so I'll never complain when it takes a little nick and goes in," he smiled.

“It's always nice to score goals. Everyone wants to put their name down on the scoresheet, so to get my first one of the season is better late than never."

Ings also said: "We did everything we could to turn things around and we've done even better than that.

“I'm so proud of us as a team and how far we've come. It's all about week-to-week and Monday to Friday putting the work in and having fun at the weekend.

“You can see we've got smiles on our faces and even in the last few minutes when we're working hard and winning tackles.

“We're getting back to enjoying football and that's what we do."
