Southampton have emerged as favourites to sign Danny Welbeck.

The striker is expected to leave Watford after their relegation to the Championship.

A number of clubs are interested in the former Arsenal and Manchester United man, including Crystal Palace.

But The Sunsays Saints are frontrunners to complete a deal for the 29-year-old.

Welbeck has a cut-price release clause of £5.5m, making him an appealing target for the south coast club.
