Southampton are favourites to land Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour.

The Daily Mail says Gilmour is in talks over a potential loan to Southampton after being left out of Thomas Tuchel's squad altogether on Sunday.

The 19-year-old has already told Chelsea he wants to move on loan to push his claims for a place in Scotland's European Championship squad.

The 19-year-old is keen to leave on a temporary basis in order to increase his playing time.

Gilmour is yet to be capped at senior level by his national team, though a run of Premier League fixtures would boost his chances of appearing in Scotland's first major tournament in 23 years.

Southampton are looking for competition in midfield for the second-half of the season, with Oriol Romeu, Ibrahima Diallo and James Ward-Prowse their main options in the middle of the park.
