Southampton face Benfica battle for Marco Silva

Southampton face a battle to tempt Marco Silva to St Mary's.

The former Watford manager is being linked with Saints job after the sacking of Mauricio Pellegrino last night.

However, Silva is in talks with Benfica, says the Independent, about succeeding Rui Vitoria at the end of this season. It's suggested Silva will replace Vitoria when he leaves Benfica in June.

Southampton, meanwhile, are also interested in the Portuguese as they seek to make a quick appointment.

Silva was dismissed by Watford on January 21.
