Southampton defender Jannick Vestergaard is a loan target for former club Werder Bremen.

The 27-year-old joined for £18m from Borussia Monchengladbach but has made just 11 appearances this season.

Bundesliga side Bremen would prefer a loan move for the towering centre-back, says the Daily Mail.

Jack Stephens and Jan Bednarek have moved ahead of Vestergaard in the pecking order under Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Saints have enjoyed a recent upturn in fortunes so the prospect of Vestergaard forcing his way back into the line-up look slim at present.
