Southampton defender Jannick Vestergaard hopes for a fresh chance with Denmark.

Vestergaard spies a new opportunity with Age Hareide stepping down as Denmark coach.

"I may not have been in the front line, but I have also played matches under Åge. The competition has been tough," said Vestergaard to Viaplay Sport Live.

"These have typically been the ones with the best form of the day, and I just have to say that the guys who got the chance last year under Åge delivered at a high level.

"Now it is a new coach for the European Championship in 2021 at home. It's a huge dream to be able to play a final round in a crowded stadium. You wouldn't even dare to hope that 10 or 20 years ago when I was playing on the local football fields.

"It is a big ambition and a big dream for me to come back and to be part of that team and be one of the driving forces, just like I was in the U21 era."
