Southampton defender Valery says defeat to Liverpool undeserved

Southampton defender Yan Valery believes defeat to Liverpool was undeserved.

After Sadio Mané's superb effort struck a huge blow in injury time, Roberto Firmino doubled the lead in the second-half.

Undeterred and backed by a raucous St Mary's crowd, a late charge saw Danny Ings net against his former employers, before another chance for the striker went agonisingly close.

“Especially in the first-half, we played good. We were pressing them, we were aggressive and obviously we concede a goal in the last minute of the first-half," Valery reflected.

“In the second-half from our mistake we concede a second. We had good chances, we could of scored a few and at the end we could have drawn 2-2 but that's football.

“That's good that we showed to the coach against Burnley you won't see it again, and to the fans as well.

“The fans were with us today, especially when Danny scored the first goal and that's how after the last 15 minutes, you can see that we had that many chances and were near to scoring."
