Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse was delighted with victory over Everton on Sunday.
Ward-Prowse felt they successfully controlled the midfield battle for the win.
"We were aggressive, we believed in ourselves, and then we have the qualities to score goals. We had control of their key players and focused on taking them out of the match, and we did well today," he said.
Ward-Prowse also says it was motivating for Southampton that Everton were unbeaten before Sunday's game.
"We knew it would be a good challenge for us, because they were undefeated. But we wanted to change that and we were full of confidence."
