Southampton captain Ward-Prowse happy with Beckham invitation

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse is delighted by the prospect of meeting former England captain David Beckham.

The 27-year-old Saints skipper has scored 14 direct free-kicks in his Premier League career, leaving him just four short of the former Manchester United man's record. And he has stated he hopes to meet Beckham once the record is matched.

Those comments caught Beckham's attention after scoring against Brighton in April, with the England great taking to Instagram to congratulate the Saints skipper and say he was excited to meet him.

Beckham said: “Looking forward to it mate. Another great one today. Four more to go."

Ward-Prowse - who is on England international duty for the Nations League - has now responded to Beckham who also scored free-kicks in Europe with Real Madrid and AC Milan.

“I was having an Indian after one of the games and a friend sent it to me," Ward-Prowse revealed with a smile.

“I couldn't really believe it, that the guy I idolised was in contact. But four more to go and I'll be level."
