Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl: Long ball Burnley

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl admits defeat at Burnley wasn't good enough.

The manager was disappointed with the way his Southampton players reacted to conceding the opening goal in the 3-0 defeat at Burnley on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

"For 60 minutes, it was ok – I thought we had the better chances, with Nathan two times," Hasenhüttl said.

“It was clear that you don't get many chances here, against an opponent who doesn't give you a chance to win the ball early because they take no risks.

“Every time it's long balls but we knew this and we had to adapt our game. In the first half, with the wind, it was easier to defend.

“In the second half, it was not so easy, and one time we had bad timing on a long ball.

“What I didn't like was the 12 minutes after the first goal, when we completely lost our pathway. We lost every duel and that is not the way we want to play.

“For sure it's not easy to stand what happened, but the reaction was not the best."
