The Daily Star says Saints are lining up £7.5m-rated Haller as a potential replacement for Sadio Mane.
Manchester United and Chelsea target Mane is set to leave St Mary's after falling out with Koeman.
And Koeman believes Utrecht front man Haller could be the ideal man to fill his boots.
The 21-year-old has scored an incredible 11 times in 16 games in the Dutch top flight this season - after hitting 11 in 17 last term.
