Southampton boss Mark Hughes has called on Alex McCarthy to step up his game after his England call-up.
McCarthy was called up to the England squad for the double-header with Spain and Switzerland, although the Southampton goalkeeper did not feature as Gareth Southgate decided to use Jordan Pickford (Everton) and Jack Butland (Stoke City).
Hughes insists McCarthy's international chance will no doubt come provided he continues to do the business for the Saints.
"We're all pleased for Alex and it is a good recognition for what he has achieved since breaking into the team," the Southampton boss said.
"But he'll understand he will need to continue that form and international recognition will follow on from that."
