Southampton boss Mark Hughes insists he is happy for Xherdan Shaqiri over his move to Liverpool.
Hughes worked with Shaqiri as Stoke City manager.
Shaqiri was unable to prevent Stoke from getting relegated, but he is settling in well at Liverpool and produced an encouraging performance against Hughes' side.
After the Liverpool defeat, Hughes said of the 26-year-old: "I had the benefit of his ability at free kicks for a long time.
"I'm pleased for Shaq. He's got a fantastic move. He's always seen himself as a player at a top six club. He's a good guy, too."
Hughes said he felt the gap between the so-called top six and the rest was widening.
"It would seem so," he said.
"[Liverpool] are building something, clearly, and are one of number of clubs with resources who can go on the market and improve when they are the top of the table. Clubs like ours have to deal with that."
