Southampton boss Hasenhuttl: We can now call him Che McADAMS

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is delighted for Che Adams after his Scotland breakthrough.

The Leicester-born Saints striker with a Scottish grandparent and is a former England under-20 international and initially resisted repeated calls from north of the border.

But he scored his first international goal in Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Faroe Islands on Wednesday night and is now a fully paid up member of the Tartan Army.

Hasenhuttl said, "Che 'McAdams' is back and he is definitely not speaking differently, but it was good for him to score for Scotland for the first time.

"I saw the game and he did a good job. Also they have a good chance to go maybe to the World Cup so it was a good first step for him."

He also remarked: "In general it shouldn't make a difference if somebody is coming from a smaller club, like we are, rather if he is coming from a bigger club,' the Saints manager added.

"It is different if you also play Champions League every week and compete at the highest level but a player like him who has showed in the Premier League how strong he is and with his qualities with set-pieces I would always take him if I'm honest.

"If I needed him in the last 10 minutes for a free-kick and scoring a goal I would always take such a player in my squad."
