Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl expects new skipper James Ward-Prowse to grow into his role.
The midfielder replaces Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as club captain ahead of the Premier League restart.
Hasenhuttl said: “You can see how quickly things can change in football if you work on your deficits and work on yourself.
“The way he performed in the last months meant he was always the guy who gave the most in the team.
“He's very positive to everybody and this is exactly what we need. He's going to have to learn as a captain and I know this is an important role in England.
“He's not an old captain and it will take time for him to grow into this role, but he will do it."
