Southampton boss Hasenhuttl rejects excuses for Cardiff defeat

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl refused to seek excuses after their 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City.

Jack Stephens cancelled out Sol Bamba's strike to level things up at 1-1 in stoppage time, before Kenneth Zahore poked home to give the visitors all three points.

“They shot three times on our goal and scored two goals. We had not many chances but more than Cardiff and scored only once," Hasenhüttl reflected.

“If you score an equaliser in added time, you have to take a minimum of one point. It would help us a lot for the mentality, the atmosphere and the feeling for the future.

“What we did now was to roll a big stone in our way and to remove that will take a lot of time.

“Dominance is not interesting because it is not the way we want to play but against this opponent you have more ball possession than normal.

“It is not what counts in the end. In the end, they scored twice and we scored once so it is not enough.

“All the positive run shows only one thing and that's if you're not 100 per cent concentrated until the end you have no chance to take points in the Premier League.

“You can speak about development and tactical, it's nice but it is not interesting. The only thing that is interesting is the result and after two draws it was a big chance today against a tight opponent – we didn't take it so it's more difficult now."
