Southampton boss Hasenhuttl: Redmond knows he must do better

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is demanding more from Nathan Redmond.

His campaign was interrupted with a knee injury he sustained at Fulham, before returning to score against Pompey in the Carabao Cup.

Hasenhuttl told the Daily Echo: “We know about his quality and we know he can be better than in the last games.

“Against Arsenal, it was a good one. I was happy with him but against Watford he was not brave enough in my opinion.

“He can do more; one against one is a big quality of his and sometimes he took the easy way to pass back and this is not the Nathan I want to see.

“This is why I was critical of him and I hope he is critical of himself because this is the most important thing for a player, to be self-critical.

“I always try to be self-critical because it is the only way to get better and if you want to get better you must see what was good, what was not so good and then you can make the next step.

“If he looks self-critically at this game, he knows he can do much better and last season he scored very often."
