Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl lamented a missed opportunity for his side at the weekend.
The Saints were level with Spurs thanks to a Danny Ings equaliser, as a result of a mistake from Hugo Lloris.
They also had a man extra, as Serge Aurier had been sent off earlier in the game.
But they were unable to stay level for much longer, as they conceded a second goal four minutes later.
Hasenhuttl said to reporters: "It's very disappointing.
"We cannot be happy because we will not have as big a chance to win here.
"Being clinical is a step of development we have to take.
"We weren't cool enough not to finish the game and that's something we have to work on."
