Southampton are closing on a deal for Brest fullback Romain Perraud.

The Athletic reports the south coast side have agreed a fee with Ligue 1 outfit Stade Brest for the defender and, as reported earlier this month, have agreed personal terms with the Toulouse-born star.

Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has met with the 23-year-old ahead of securing a move.

Perraud was a key figure for Brest last season, playing 36 times and starting on 35 occasions.

He scored three goals and registered seven assists to help his side finish 17th in the French top flight.
