Southampton boss Hasenhuttl happy England looking at Ward-Prowse

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl says James Ward-Prowse deserves to be considered for an England recall.

England boss Gareth Southgate is an admirer of Ward-Prowse, handing him his only England cap against Germany in March 2017, and is now rumoured to be ready to give him a recall for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers.

“It was an interesting way he took since I was here," said Hasenhuttl of Ward-Prowse's progress. “At first he was not part of the 18 at Huddersfield so it was not easy for him.

“He took the chance, Lemina was injured and Oriol (Romeu) was suspended and he got the chance to play at right back or in the number eight and he showed what I was demanding from him he can bring on the pitch.

“That is the moment where you start to trust a player, where you start to get confidence with him and to accept he is a player that can help you.

“I was speaking about an account where he is paying something in and then if he had paid it, and maybe one time he does not have such a good match, he can take money of it.

“There is a lot of money now on this account and therefore he can buy something. He shows me every week he wants to put money on this account.

“That is the best way to get a good impression by a manager.

“He is young, he is physically very strong, he can play all three games in a week with a lot of running. That is no problem for him and that is a good basic of being successful in the future."
